Bruxism—the involuntary habit of clenching or grinding one’s teeth—is much more common than it seems, and its consequences extend beyond dental health. Continued stress on the temporomandibular joint and the masticatory muscles can lead to chronic jaw pain, headaches upon waking, a feeling of facial tension, and, over time, hypertrophy of the masseter muscle, which gives the face a squarer and more voluminous appearance in the jaw area.

The good news is that the neuromodulator offers an effective, safe, and minimally invasive solution for both the symptoms of bruxism and jaw aesthetics.

How does it work for bruxism?

When injected into the masseter muscle—the primary muscle involved in chewing—it reduces the muscle’s contractile force without affecting normal chewing function. The result is twofold: relief from jaw pain, muscle-related headaches, and a feeling of fatigue in the area; and, from an aesthetic standpoint, a gradual reduction in the volume of the masseter muscle that refines the jawline.

The injection is a simple and quick procedure—taking less than 15 minutes—with no recovery time required. Functional relief is noticeable within the first few days; the aesthetic change in the jaw becomes visible after 4–8 weeks.

Anyone diagnosed with bruxism—or who notices related symptoms, such as jaw clicking, joint pain, headaches upon waking, or tooth wear—can benefit from this treatment. It’s also an excellent option if you want to refine the shape of your jaw, especially when the wide angle is caused by muscle rather than bone.

If bruxism is severe, it is important to combine treatment with dental follow-up: the toxin acts on the muscle, but it does not prevent tooth wear if the underlying cause persists. In many cases, we also recommend the use of a night guard.

Duration and Follow-up

The effects last between 4 and 6 months. With regular sessions, many patients notice that the severity of their bruxism gradually decreases and that the masseter muscle does not fully return to its original hypertrophy.
